Community Involvement

The Louisburg Masonic Lodge has been active in the community since it formed in the early 1900s. With 501 C3 standing, they have served thousands of people through a range of activities. Every year they make donations to the Agape Center Food Pantry, deliver Christmas baskets to widows of their past members, plan picnics for their families, and hold public events such as their annual Fish Fry and Biscuits &Gravy Breakfast. But when it comes down to their purpose, they are there for the kids. The Louisburg Masonic Lodge provides several scholarships for LHS students, and supports the Kansas Child Identification Program that provides free material to parents to help recover lost children quickly.

The Grand Lodge Essay Contest is a chance for students to write an essay focused on one of the Bill of Rights or a government issue. The lodge members chose a winner who has shown insight on the essay subject, community involvement, and academic merit. This year Kaylee Smith won the $500 award. Her essay went on to compete at the state level.

During the spring, the Louisburg Masonic Lodge gives out two Honesty and Integrity scholarships to graduating students for college funds. Member Dr. Damon Dennis created this scholarship ten years ago to recognize students who have Mason qualities of honesty, integrity, friendship, morality, and brotherly/sisterly love. Brooke Harshaw and Gabby Bowman each were awarded $250 last May.

In addition to the Honesty and Integrity scholarships, two more awards are given out to Louisburg High School students. The Louisburg Masonic Lodge Scholarships of $500 were given to Kara O’Keefe and Gabby Bowman this year for their academic success and school involvement.

The Louisburg Masonic Lodge also sponsors students for the Kansas Masonic All State Marching Band Camp. This year, the Lodge sent seven students to the five day camp to practice marching skills. The students then perform in a parade and for the half-time show for the Kansas Shriners’ East-West High School All Star football game. The Lodge has sponsored students for the band camp for over 25 years.

Several times a year, the Lodge holds public fundraising events to contribute to the scholarship funding. The annual Fish Fry brings in over 100 people, and the Biscuits & Gravy Breakfast has been a success since it started. This year will be the first Masonic Lodge Gun Show, and the Masons hope that it will also be a big hit. The community has been very supportive, and has helped the Louisburg Masonic Lodge bring new opportunities to our children.
